Defined Term Validation
Open a document or project, click Analyze, and within seconds Lexicon will find each defined term, each place where the term is used, and, optionally, each undefined term. As Lexicon displays the results, it visually indicates possible problems such as defined terms that are not used, terms that are defined more than once, and inconsistent capitalization.
Lexicon lets you control the identification of defined terms in various ways, including the Ignore List--a customizable list of words and phrases to exclude from the glossary. The phrases may include wildcards, so that you may, for example, ignore all phrases in quotes that are preceded by "SFAS" (Statement of Financial Accounting Standards).
When identifying uses of defined terms, you may automatically include all plural and possessive forms of defined terms, and you may include or exclude terms that are all lowercase.
In identifying undefined terms, you may customize a separate Ignore List, also including wildcards, so that, for example, you can tell Lexicon to ignore any capitalized phrase ending in "Inc." Lexicon automatically ignores each word at the beginning of a sentence, section headers, and phrases in all capital letters.

Navigation
Lexicon provides two unique tools for navigating large documents and sets of related documents:
- The Navigator--a sleek control panel that floats above word and gives you immediate access to any defined term, any use of a defined term, or any undefined term, in one or multiple documents. Select the item you want to see and Lexicon will jump to the location in the document and highlight the term. If the document you want to see isn't open, Lexicon will automatically open the document.
- Snippets--document excerpts that display every definition, use, and undefined term in context. Snippets appear in the main Lexicon window. Click on a defined term and its snippets appear beside it. Double-click on a snippet and Lexicon will bring up the Word document that snippet was taken from, move to the original location and highlight the term.
Lexicon also makes it easy to insert hyperlinks in a Word document between term uses and their definitions. This means that anyone reading the document, with or without Lexicon, can then control-click on a use and jump immediately to its definition... even if the definition is in another document.

Projects
A Project is a group of related files that you want to analyze together, perhaps because they share defined terms, or because you want to navigate them as a group, or because a large document has been split into multiple files. Lexicon processes all the files together and creates one common glossary for the group. Reviewing and moving among related documents has never been easier.

Document Markup
Lexicon can markup a document or documents in three ways:
- Highlighting--color-coding defined terms, uses, and undefined terms, as well as specific problems such as unused terms and inconsistent capitalization (all in different colors of the user's choosing)
- Commenting--inserting each definition as a comment to each use (especially useful when reviewing a document from an outside source)
- Linking--inserting a hyperlink from each use back to its definition, so that a mouse click on the use takes the user to the place in the document where the term is defined
Viewing the document markup is not limited to users who have Lexicon installed. Once a document is marked up and saved, anyone viewing the document will have the benefit of the markup.
