Document review can be tedious

Reviewing lengthy documents can be tedious.

Searching through hundreds of pages of a 10-K or merger document to find a term or check a definition (find next, find next, find next...) consumes hours of time you could be spending in more productive ways.

Lexicon provides two tools to make document review a little less painful.

The Navigator IconThe Navigator

The Navigator is a mini-control panel that floats above Word and lets you zip from place to place within a document (or even multiple documents) quickly. Most important, you can navigate based on content, not just page numbers.

Analyze a document or project and click the Navigator button (the paper boat). Lexicon's main screen will minimize and the Navigator will appear:

The Navigator window floats above Word

The Navigator's drop-down list holds the Defined Terms for the current document or project. Click a Defined Term in the list and jump to the definition in Word. Review each definition by clicking the Next and Previous Definition buttons. Review each use the same way. Click the question mark balloon to review Undefined Terms.

If you've ever felt lost in a huge document, you'll like the Navigator.

Snippets

Snippets are brief excerpts from a document or documents that show Defined Terms, Uses, and Undefined Terms in context. (Click here for a screen shot.)

In the main Lexicon screen, click a Defined Term and the Snippets list will display all definitions and all uses for that term. Click an Undefined Term and snippets showing all occurrences of the term will appear. Scroll through the list and review the snippets in Lexicon or double-click on any snippet and jump to the location in the source document that the snippet was taken from.
